So far summer time for me has been a time of reflecting on the essentials. While there is a slight lull in the working world with vacations and more restful weeks, now is a perfect time to focus on simplicity.
While this summer has still been quite a busy one, I’ve been making efforts to figure out how to best structure where my time goes to accommodate priorities both for right now and for later this year. I don’t know about you but when I get busy and don’t have a 30,000 foot view of what I’m responsible for, things start falling through the cracks.
How can you organize what you don’t know?
So this week, I decided to get a handle on the situation. I worked with Jessi (Ops Manager at Pulse + Signal) to build something in a good old fashioned spreadsheet to lay things out. Tabs developed around my responsibilities for current client work, boards and other projects in motion. While fairly basic, I got to breathe a huge sigh of relief when I took a step back. Now that it’s all out there, we can figure out better plans for next steps — especially as the Fall is quickly approaching.
With so many opportunities to get even busier once the summer comes to an end, definitely take some time to get a high level view of where you are putting your creative energies. It not only helps to prevent dropping the ball on that assignment you received as an advisory board member, it also helps to re-energize around the reasons why you’re doing this work.
